First, because there are lots of foreign materials that can be flying around on a construction site, such as splinters, nails and metal fragments, it’s vital that construction workers wear the proper eyewear while on a job site. Eyewear that is marked with Z87 on the frames tends to rank at the highest level in terms of protection.

Second, you also want to think about the sun’s strong ultraviolet (UV) rays, particularly this time of year. Since most of the time construction workers are on the job site the moment the sun comes up until it goes down, that means they are working during the time periods the sun’s UV rays are at the strongest.

Show Your Vehicle a Little TLC

Let’s take a look at ways you can help your car transition from winter to spring.

First, while we might not have had too many snow days, we did have some. This led to cities and counties applying mixtures of salt and brine to the road. This mixture can cause corrosion to occur on your vehicle, especially underneath your car. So first things first—give your car a good scrub. While rain washes away some of the salt residue, it can’t get to all areas of the vehicle. Be sure to wash underneath the car, as well as on its surface.

In addition, now is also a good time to replace your wiper blades. During the winter months, your wiper blades tend to get a good workout in with the snow, rain and even sleet. Wiper blades should be replaced at least twice a year, ideally. So now’s a good time to switch yours out, so that you can see clearly when those spring showers come through!

Finally, you want to make sure you check your tire pressure and keep your tires properly inflated. During the winter weather, cold temperatures can cause tires to lose pressure. Therefore, you want to make sure they are aligned, pressurized and ready to go to help keep you safe while on the road! Not sure what your tire pressure should be? It’s usually indicated on the panel just inside the driver’s side of the car.

However, our team at Wright Brothers Construction understands that while our area enjoys the four seasons, we’re not quite used to driving in the dangerous road conditions that winter can bring. That’s why we’d like to offer up some tips.

Driving Tips for Winter Road Conditions

Did you know that 24 percent of weather-related vehicle crashes occur each year on snowy, slushy or icy pavement? In addition, 15 percent of these accidents occur during snowfall or sleet.

Let’s take a look at ways to stay safe on the road this winter.

First, you need to be sure you’re getting plenty of quality sleep before hitting the road. This tip is important year-round, but especially so during the winter weather. No one should drive while fatigued, but as many as 60 percent of Americans admit to driving while tired. And drowsy driving can actually be just as dangerous as drunk driving. Combine drowsy driving with inclement weather conditions, and you have an even more deadly combination. So be sure you don’t drive while tired.

Second, be sure your car is well-maintained. If you haven’t done so in a while, have your oil changed and tires rotated and balanced. It’s especially important during the winter to ensure your tires have the right amount of pressure in them. Not sure how much pressure your tires need? Check your vehicle’s manual or look just inside the driver’s side door for optimal PSI for each tire.

In addition, make sure to keep your gas tank at least half full when the temperature is expected to drop significantly. Doing so can help prevent your gas line from freezing, especially if you park your car outside at night.

Finally, don’t forget to buckle up every time you get in your car—it’s the law!

First, construction workers have to come to work dressed the part. Since the heat is no longer an issue during the colder temperatures, workers have to switch up their uniform in order to be able to handle the cold, sometimes wet temperatures.
