Working Safely in a Winter Wonderland | Wright Brothers Construction
When the weather outside is frightful, our team at Wright Brothers Construction does the best we can to make the situation as delightful as possible. But with the winter weather, certain precautions need to be taken in order to ensure construction worker safety.
Safety Precautions in Winter
Cold temperatures and wintry precipitation present a unique set of challenges to construction workers. These challenges require special safety precautions. Read on for a look at those precautions.
First, construction workers have to come to work dressed the part. Since the heat is no longer an issue during the colder temperatures, workers have to switch up their uniform in order to be able to handle the cold, sometimes wet temperatures. When temperatures drop below a certain point, the risk of frostbite and hypothermia increases. Therefore, thermal layers, jackets, hats and gloves are added to the uniform in order to help keep a construction worker warm and protected while on the job site.
Second, it’s important for construction workers to follow a healthy diet in order to keep their stamina and health up during the work day. Fill your plate with plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains.
Instead of offering free coffee on a construction site, which can give workers a sense of false warmth, have plenty of water easily accessible. Construction workers need to stay focused on staying hydrated by drinking water throughout the day.
Finally, the job site should be free of any debris before the work day begins. Ice and snow should be removed before working on a construction site. Salt or sand can also be placed on the site, if needed, to add another layer of protection to help ensure falls and other potential injuries don’t occur due to weather conditions.
