Watch Out for Outdoor Hazards on the Construction Site! | Wright Brothers Construction
Our team at Wright Brothers Construction wants you to know that although there are numerous benefits of working outside, there are also some hazards you need to watch out for.
Avoiding Workplace Hazards While Outdoors
One of the great benefits of working in the construction industry is that you don’t have to sit behind a desk 40+ hours a week. Instead, you get to be outside, which has been shown to reduce stress and improve your immune system. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t hazards to keep an eye on at the job site.
Outdoor hazards can vary from season to season and job to job. Therefore, training is essential within the construction industry to ensure everyone on a construction site is aware of the hazards ahead of them.
Let’s take a look at some hazards that require construction workers to take preventive action.
First, because of working outside, the temperature can range from extreme heat to extreme cold. And, let’s face it, living in Tennessee, it can be really cold one week and really hot the next. Or even the next day!
Due to these extreme temperatures, construction workers can be at risk of suffering from:
- Frostbite
- Heat exhaustion
- Heat rash
- Heat stroke
- Hypothermia
In addition, because of the loud noises from the tools and equipment utilized on a construction site, hearing loss can potentially occur, particularly over time.
Second, you never know what could be lurking in the environment construction workers are working in. From venomous snakes and spiders to poisonous plants, a construction worker never knows what hazard can be right around the corner. It’s important to remain aware of your surroundings at all times.
Finally, exposure to certain chemical and traumatic injury hazards can also occur while working outdoors, in addition to other safety and health hazards depending on the job task at hand.
Because you never know what hazard might be on a job site, our management works hard to ensure all construction workers are as knowledgeable as possible about their work environment and the hazards they can be exposed to.
However, it shouldn’t take away the beauty that can be found from working outdoors! What a beautiful office we have each and every day!
