The Duties of a Construction Worker
You see them on the road while you are driving. Sometimes they are the reason traffic has slowed down on the highway. At times, you have seen them walking across a beam. But, have you ever really wondered what a construction worker does?
A Construction Worker’s Job Description
One of the benefits of being a construction worker is that you are able to work in a variety of locations along different terrains. However, no matter where your location, some things about a construction worker’s job remain the same.
For instance, construction workers are required to clean and prepare the construction site on which they are working by removing debris and possible hazards—helping to keep everyone safe. They are also asked to load and unload materials that are to be used at the construction site.
Depending on the type of construction site, workers may also be assigned to digging trenches, back-filling holes, and compacting the earth in order to prepare the construction site for building. Construction workers are also required to operate a number of machines and pieces of equipment while on the job—such as concrete mixers, bulldozers, brooms, shovels, pavement breakers, jackhammers, earth tampers, surveying equipment, etc. Some, depending on their specialty, may also be asked to help transport and use explosives that are used to prepare the ground for construction.
