Tackle Winter Like a Construction Worker
Some people are fortunate enough to have a nice, warm office waiting for them during the cold, winter months. However, the construction industry is not one of them. For us, our work is—for the most part—outside. And while winter can be a busy time, it also brings its own challenges when it comes to safety.
‘Tis the Season to Take Precautions
It may seem that the same safety precautions need to be taken at all times by construction workers no matter what the season. However, the winter months tend to bring their own challenges to construction workers while on the job site. Therefore, it is important for them to take extra steps to ensure they remain as safe as possible at work.
For one, thanks to the colder weather bringing rain, ice, and snow, the roads and surfaces are extra slippery during these months. As a result, it is important for construction workers to wear shoes with proper traction, as well as ones that are well-insulated in order to help keep their body heat up.
It is also vital that they take things slowly, even if it is just walking from one end of a job site to the other. By walking at a slower pace, a worker’s reaction time to a change in circumstances can be quicker and more accurate in preventing injuries.
Equipment, such as ladders, should always be checked and cleared before use to make certain injuries are avoided while in use.
