Summer Safety for Construction Workers
To say it gets hot on a construction site during the summer is an understatement. Construction workers are already working hard and working up a sweat during the year to only have it double during the summer months. As a result, it is important for construction workers to take extra precautions when working in the hot, summer days.
Summer Safety
The biggest thing construction workers need to remember while working on job sites this summer is to stay hydrated. Between the heat and the hard work, dehydration can happen fast. Therefore, it is important for workers to drink as much water as they can throughout the day in order to keep their bodies hydrated. If water is not a favorite, sports drinks like Gatorade can help. However, it is important not to go for sports drinks with a lot of sugar, soda drinks, or caffeinated beverages.
Lunch and food chosen to eat throughout the day is also important in keeping a worker safe during a hot day. Don’t overload your digestive system with food full of fat and high preservatives. Instead, keep your body less stressed by selecting food your body needs, such as fruit, vegetables, and light lunches. And do not forget breakfast! A car cannot drive without gas—and neither can a worker’s body run without the proper fuel (food).
