Whenever we leave our driveway, we hope that we’re driving on smooth, clear roads. Unfortunately, what we sometimes find ourselves in is a traffic jam. Instead of letting it fuel the road rage within us, find out how you can make a traffic jam a more pleasurable occurrence.

Coming across congestion on the road, you might instantly begin to feel anxiety, frustration or anger. Flip the tables on those emotions.

For example, use this time to sit back and meditate. Avoid raising your stress level and blood pressure by taking moments to breathe in and out, as well as becoming aware of your surroundings. Notice the scenery and take appreciation of the blue sky, green trees and nature that surrounds us that we get too busy to notice.

You can also use this time to catch up on your favorite radio show or audiobook. Or call up a relative you haven’t spoken to in a while. It’s a great way to help pass the time and catch up on things you have been wanting to do but couldn’t.

Be careful of the music you play while sitting in traffic. Angry, hard music may only add fuel to the fire. Instead, go for music that’s more calming, including soft rock, jazz or classical.
