Life Tips from a Construction Worker: Part One
Whether you are working in the construction industry or are a 9 am to 5 pm office worker, everyone can learn something from a construction worker. In this series, we look at ways construction workers handle situations and how you—no matter what profession you may be in—can incorporate this into your daily life. Because let’s face it—constructions workers are some of the best when learning how to handle any obstacles that come their way!
Do Your Part to Avoid Stress and Injury
One of the first things you want to do is to be sure you lift things properly. This is important no matter what career field you chose, or even at home. Back aches are a common injury in both the workplace and the home. It cannot be said enough to use your legs and bend your knees when lifting objects. To help with balance, be sure to place one foot slightly in front of the other.
You also want to make sure to leave squatting at the gym. If you are working on something that requires you to squat or kneel for a significant amount of time, just go ahead and sit down on the ground to work on it. This will help in preventing injuries to your knees.
When using a tool belt (whether at work or at home), make sure it fits properly and is not overloaded. Also, you do not want to put everything to one side. Being right or left handed, you may have a tendency to want to place everything to your correlated handedness, but this can actually cause your body to pull out of alignment. Keep the weight of your tool belt as balanced as possible.
