How to Handle Thanksgiving Holiday Traffic | Wright Brothers Construction
According to AAA, more than 48.7 million Americans take to the road over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. As a result, you can be sure you won’t be traveling alone when heading out for Thanksgiving visits. The team at Wright Brothers Construction wants to offer some tips to help keep you and your family safe while driving over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Make It Safely in Time for Turkey
The following are ways to help improve your safety while on the road to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends.
First, before packing your luggage, make sure you have an emergency kit in your car in case anything happens while on the road, including a flat tire, running out of gas, heat going out, being stuck in traffic, etc. An emergency kit can help to keep you and your family safe and warm until additional help arrives.
Second, you want to pack appropriately for your trip. Bring the least amount of luggage as possible. Anything that you or a family member might need to reach during the trip should be placed in an easily accessible spot. This way you are not having to take all your luggage in and out during rest stops or distracting the driver while on the road.
Finally, be patient and keep distractions to a minimum. Use a navigation system, if possible. If you need to use the GPS on your phone, put a passenger in charge of looking for traffic so that your eyes can remain focused on the road. When traffic appears, stay calm, cool, and collected. Stressing out will only add fuel to the fire. Instead, use it as a time to catch up with family, tell stories, or play a car game to help the time go by faster.
