How to Avoid Road Fatigue | Wright Brothers Construction

When you think of distracted driving, you probably think of texting, but our team at Wright Brothers Construction wants to talk to you about another form of distracted driving—driving drowsy.

If Sleepy, Stay Off the Road

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “drowsy driving” accounts for more than 100,000 crashes each year, resulting in 1,550 deaths and 40,000 injuries. Let’s work to reduce this number in 2017 by staying alert while on the road.

Be sure that before each drive, whether it’s a 10-minute trip or an eight-hour journey, you get plenty of rest before getting behind the wheel. If possible, especially during long road trips, bring another adult with you. This person can help you stay alert and take over driving when you’re tired.

Take breaks during your drive. After two hours of driving, take a break to get out of the car. Walking around and stretching can help get your blood flowing and give your energy level a boost.

Also, eat healthy foods along the way. Sugary snacks can cause you to become tired faster. Therefore, try and eat foods full of lean protein, as well as fruits and vegetables that can help fuel your body instead of making you tired.

It’s important that our construction workers stay as safe on the construction sites as possible. Please help Wright Brothers protect our workers by maintaining focus while you’re on the road.
