Halloween Costume Safety 101 | Wright Brothers Construction
Did you know that the No.1 Halloween hazard is kids being hit by cars? In fact, children are twice as likely to be struck by a car on Halloween as on any other night. Our team at Wright Brothers Construction wants to help ensure your child has a fun and safe Halloween night by sharing tips on how to choose a safe costume.
Wear What Can Be Seen
The following costumes were the most popular during Halloween 2016:
- Darth Vader
- Batgirl
- Belle
- Power Rangers
- Bear
- Ninja
- Skeleton
- The Mad Hatter
- Mickey Mouse
- Vampire
As you can tell from the list, some of the most popular costumes are very dark and include masks. While you want your child to have the costume of his or her choosing, you also need to make sure your child stays safe.
First, you’ll want to make sure the costume fits your child properly. Costumes shouldn’t be too long to where they drag on the ground—this can cause your child to trip and fall and become injured.
Second, you also want to ensure your child is well seen by cars and other trick-or-treaters. While a flashlight can come in handy, trick-or-treat bags with glow-in-the-dark tape, as well as reflective tape placed on his or her costume can help your child be seen more easily.
Finally, if your child does choose a costume that includes a mask, switch it out for face paint instead. Your child can still get the same look while keeping his or her nose and mouth uncovered, which helps ensure he or she can breathe easily.
