Summer’s for Fun

While we strive to build a strong work family, we also know where true family lies—and that’s at home. We want our employees to be able to enjoy time with the people who mean the most to them. Here are some ideas for spending quality time with your loved ones this summer.

For starters, create your own summer story! Instead of reading a book from the library at bedtime, sit down with your children and create a page or two of your own story. One can be the writer, and one can be the illustrator. This book can be about dreams of the future, dreams of a vacation they one day want to take as a family, or any other topic that catches their attention.

For a different take on this fun, make the story collaborative. Have one family member write a paragraph, then another write the following paragraph and so on. You’ll create a fun adventure that’s all your own!

Second, take advantage of the weather by getting outdoors and gardening together. Teach your children how to plant vegetables and watch them grow. You can use this as an opportunity to teach them how to cook using the ingredients they grow in their garden. You can even plant your garden with fruits, vegetables and herbs that go together in a favorite food—like pizza!

Finally, make car trips fun. Even just driving around the Chattanooga area can take awhile. Use this time to catch up with one another. You can also play games, like the license plate game and the alphabet game, to help the time move faster when you’re sitting in traffic.
