Change of Seasons = Change of Conditions | Wright Brothers Construction
If you think the weather change only affects you and your sinuses, think again. Our team at Wright Brothers Construction wants to show you how the weather changes can also greatly impact the roads and bridges on which we drive on a daily basis.
How Our Infrastructure Handles Weather Changes
While you might be more focused on having a working air conditioner in your car during the hot, summer months, the heat from the sun’s UV rays is actually affecting the roads on which you are driving. In fact, high temperatures can cause the pavement to soften and expand, which can lead to potholes, rutting in the asphalt and stress spots on bridges.
When rains (and/or floods) begin to roll in, they bring a different type of damage to our roads and bridges. When heavy rain and intense storms are in the forecast, not only is there an increased risk of traffic jams and delays in construction, but there’s also a chance for the culverts that help to support roads and bridges to weaken.
Snow can be just as damaging to our roadways. When an extreme drop of temperatures occurs, the chance of ice hitting our roadways, especially black ice, greatly increases—putting drivers at risk of car accidents.
In addition to the dangers snow can pose to drivers, it also causes stress on our roads from the weight of the snow itself. Along with delays in construction, snow can also lead to issues in the transporting of goods from one location to another, slowing down the supply chain.
Remember, no matter what the weather, it’s important to be the best driver you can. Put your smartphone away and focus only on the road and cars around you. You never know when weather conditions will change just like that, especially in our area.
