Get to Your Thanksgiving Meal Safely!
Let’s face it. The Thanksgiving holiday isn’t known for keeping the roads free from traffic jams. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. It seems the long weekend is one of the busiest times of travel for the year. However, this doesn’t mean it has to make for a stressful trip.
Try out some of these tips to make traveling during Thanksgiving a little easier on you and your family.
First, make sure your vehicle is ready to go! Perform the needed maintenance on your vehicle before your trip instead of waiting until after you return. Make sure the oil has been changed, tires rotated, battery charged, and brake fluid and coolant levels are where they need to be.
Second, prepare for delays. It’s going to happen. Many are traveling for Thanksgiving this year. Therefore, there are more chances of an accident occurring due to the fact there are more cars on the road. Take a look at your route, and plan an alternative route in case you come upon a traffic jam. This way, you are familiar with other roads you can choose to get to your destination.
You can also try and leave at a different time than others. Many will try to leave early on Wednesday in order to miss traffic. However, if you really want to avoid as much road congestion as possible, consider leaving around 8 or 9 p.m. and driving through the night. But remember, if you do choose to try this, make sure to get plenty of rest throughout the day so that you’re ready for the long night of driving. Don’t attempt this drive if you’re fatigued.
Leaving on Thanksgiving is always an option, too! If your trip is only around four hours, maybe skip the traffic the day before and, instead, leave early Thanksgiving morning, since most people will have made the trip on Wednesday.
