Beat the Summer Heat | Wright Brothers Construction
The warm weather is fast approaching within the Chattanooga area, which is why the team at Wright Brothers Construction is working hard to make sure our construction workers stay protected during the summer heat over the next few months.
Stay Safe Under the Blazing Sun
The following are ways construction workers can help stay safe during the warmer summer months.
First, hydration is key. As a result, it’s important for water to be made readily available for construction workers while on the job site so that they can try and drink a glass of water around every 15 to 20 minutes to stay properly hydrated throughout the day. The water should be cool, not warm. Also, energy drinks, sodas and other sugary drinks should be avoided during the hot days.
Eating right is another way for construction workers to stay safe during the heat. By eating a heavier meal that is full of fat and grease, you are more likely to feel weighted down during the day, as well as less energized. However, if you choose light foods, such as a turkey sandwich on wheat with tomato and mustard and a side of carrots, you will most likely be more alert and full of energy.
Sleep is also essential in order to better conquer each and every day. As a result, try and aim for at least eight to 10 hours of quality sleep every night in order to ensure you have the energy to be productive and effective the next day. Plus, because construction sites usually host heavy equipment, it’s vital for all operators to be full of energy and alert to help prevent accidents.
Be sure to take note of what to look for when it comes to heat stress, such as dizziness, trouble comprehending, difficulty speaking, excessive sweating, etc. If any coworkers are experiencing these symptoms, be sure to get them to a physician as soon as possible for care.
